A base oil solvent extraction plant upgrades vacuum-distilled lubricating oil fractions or re-refined base oil by selectively separating aromatics, oxidation products and other unstable components that can affect color, viscosity index and oxidation stability. Feed suitability and the required treatment route should be confirmed by laboratory analysis rather than by oil appearance alone.
Process and Equipment Scope
A typical project may include feed conditioning, controlled oil-to-solvent mixing, extraction or contacting, phase separation, solvent recovery by distillation, product collection and closed-loop solvent circulation. The final design must define the solvent system, operating window, material balance, recovery rate, utilities, emissions controls and safe handling measures for the selected solvent.
Data Required for Plant Selection
For an accurate process proposal, provide representative feed samples and test results for viscosity at 40 and 100 C, viscosity index, flash point, pour point, water, total acid number, carbon residue, ash and metals. Also state the target base oil specification, required capacity and local environmental or product standards. Yield and finished-oil quality should be established through feed testing, a documented mass balance and agreed acceptance criteria.
